어제 올린 post를 보다가 문득 미국의 문맹률이 궁금해져서 인터넷을 뒤져보았다.
그랬더니 어떤 자료는 40% 라고도 하고 어떤 자료는 25%라고도 한다.
그 중 New Jersey 대학의 홈페이지에 있는 자료에 따르면 1985년 조사 당시 문맹률이 14%에 이르른단다.(http://www.tcnj.edu/~rgraham/rhetoric/students/eager-reader.html)
그리고 시골의 문맹률 보다는 도시 빈민층의 문맹률이 훨씬 높다고 한다.
미국, 전쟁에 쏟아 붓는 돈으로 너희들 국민부터 먼저 보살펴라.
그런 의미에서 오늘은, "Hotel California"에서 노래와 드럼을 연주했던 Don Henley가 Eagles 해체 후 솔로로 나서 1982년에 발표한 앨범 "I can't stand still"에 수록되어 있는 노래를 골라 보았다.
제목은 "Johnny can't read" ... 그럼 즐감들 ... ^^
