1962년에 Antonio Carlos Jobim이 작곡하고 Vinicius De Moraes의 포르투갈어 작사로 만들어진 노래 "The Girl From Ipanema".
이 노래는 1963년에 João Gilberto와 Stan Getz 그리고 Astrud Gilberto에 의해 Norman Gimbel의 영어가사가 곁들여져서 녹음, 발매된다. 그리고 이 노래가 담긴 앨범 <Getz/Gilberto>는 역사 상 가장 많이 팔린 재즈 앨범 중 하나가 된다.
이후 수도 없이 많은 이들에 의해 불려지며 보사노바의 대표곡이 된 "The Girl From Ipanema"는 언제 들어도 여전히 그 싱그러움과 신선함이 살아 숨쉬는 노래이다.
