그리고 동양화들 펼치실텐데, 너무 과하게는 마시고요 ^^;;;
며칠 전에 영화 "타짜"를 재미있게 봤는데,
영화가 괜찮긴 했지만 사실 허영만 선생의 원작이 훨 낫다는 게 제 평입니다.
암튼 그 영화도 그렇고 추석도 되고 해서 골라 본 오늘의 가사 검열은 Kenny Rogers의 1978년 앨범 <The Gambler>에 수록되어 있는 "The Gambler"입니다.
그럼 모두들 즐감~ ^.^

I met up with the gambler; we were both too tired to sleep.
So we took turns a starin' out the window at the darkness
'Til boredom overtook us, and he began to speak.
어느 더운 여름 밤, 목적지도 모르는 기차 안에서,
타짜를 만났네, 그와 나는 너무 피곤해서 잠도 못 이루고 있었지,
그래서 우리는 번갈아 어두운 창문 밖을 내다보곤 했지,
지루함이 우리를 짓누를 때 그가 입을 열었네,
He said, "Son, I've made my life out of readin' people's faces,
And knowin' what their cards were by the way they held their eyes.
so if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're out of aces.
For a taste of your whiskey I'll give you some advice."
"젊은이, 난 남들의 얼굴 표정을 읽으며 평생을 살아왔어,
그들의 눈빛을 통해 어떤 카드를 들고있는지 알아챘지,
기분 나쁠지 모르지만, 자네도 꽃패인생은 아니라는게 보여,
그 위스키 한 잔 주면 내가 충고 하나 해 줌세"
So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow.
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light.
And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression.
Said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right.
그래서 나는 그에게 병을 건넸고 그는 마지막 한 방울까지 털어 넣었지,
그리고 그는 담배를 꺼내 물더니 불을 붙여달랬지,
그렇게 밤은 적막으로 휩싸였고 그의 얼굴은 완전한 무표정이 되었다네,
"판을 벌였으면 제대로 붙어야 해"
You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done.
"언제 판에 껴야할지, 언제 빠져야할지 알아야 하네,
설설 기어야 할 때와 신나게 달려야 할 때를 알아야 하네,
판에 끼었을 땐 절대 돈을 세지말게,
판이 끝나면 얼마든지 시간이 있으니까."
Now every gambler knows that the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away and knowing what to keep.
'Cause every hand's a winner and ev'ry hand's a loser,
And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep."
세상 모든 타짜에겐 다 자신만의 비결이 있지,
어떤 카드를 던져야 하는지, 어떤 카드를 지켜야 하는지,
누구라도 이길 수 있고 누구라도 질 수 있는 게 이 바닥이야,
가장 재수가 좋은 게 잠든 사이에 죽는 거지."
so when he'd finished speakin', he turned back towards the window,
Crushed out his cigarette and faded off to sleep.
And somewhere in the darkness the gambler, he broke even.
But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep.
그는 말을 마치고서 창가 쪽으로 몸을 돌렸네,
담배를 비벼 끄고는 잠을 청하더군,
그리고 그 날의 어둠 속 어딘가에서 타짜는 돈을 따고 있었어,
나는 그가 남긴 말들을 내 인생의 꽃패로 간직하게 되었지,
