이 곡의 원작자는 가수이자 시인인 Leonard Cohen인데, 그의 1985년 앨범 <Various Positions>에 처음 수록된 노래이다.

이 곡은 1991년에 국내 가수 윤설하가 "벙어리 바이올린"이라는 곡으로 번안하여 우리에게 제법 알려지기도 하였다.

오늘은 그 음색이 너무도 흡사하여 제 2의 Billie Holiday라고 불리기도 하는 Madeleine Peyroux가 자신의 두 번째 독집앨범 <Careless Love>에서 다시 부른 버젼으로 준비하였다.
